What's it’s like to deploy and go to War- Modern counseling considerations for the Servicemen and their Families

Many in our local area serve in the Military. This includes the thousands of Active, Guard and Reserve service members. In addition, Scott AFB is the largest employer in southwestern Illinois extending the effects of Military service deeper into the community. So what is it like deploying and going to war? What effects can this have on the service member as well as the family? What, as therapists, can we do in all three phases (Pre-deployment, Deployment, and Post-deployment) for the service member and their families? We will explore this topic and share our own experiences as service members and therapists.
